How We Make Our Drives

Our drives are created using cutting edge designs, with custom PCBs including a custom German designed and produced motherboard, a custom BitBinders designed PC drive adapter, and case components produced with professional state-of-the-art 3D printers.

Our custom created cases are truly elegant - you'll be hard pressed to tell that the case is not injection molded.  The quality of the fine text on the front and rear panels are as legible as injection molded cases.

The motherboard and PC floppy adapter are made with the highest quality PCB manufacturing available.  And the power supply circuitry has been updated to a far more efficient and reliable design, allowing the use of standard, everyday wall transformers (included with the drive.)  If you should misplace the power adapter you can simply use any wall adapter which supplies 7.5 to 23 volts with a positive center (almost all wall transformers as such.)  In addition, the drive is protected with a replaceable fuse should anything go wrong.

Speaking of the motherboard, we employ a German designed and produced PCB that is proven to be reliable.  Beware of some amateur-designed boards that randomly operate at times and fail at other times.

As mentioned elsewhere, all integrated circuits, new or otherwise,  are individually tested using a professional IC analyzer.  This test equipment verifies various chip operations which are dependent on the specific IC being tested.  See the green dots on each of the chips below?  Those dots indicate that the IC has passed these thorough tests.

Lastly, not surprisingly 3.5" floppy drives are no longer manufactured anywhere in the world.  Fortunately there are plenty of PC drives still available.  The PC floppy drives used in our drives have been fully refurbished and thoroughly tested by BitBinders.  They have also been modified to accept either double density (DD) or high density (HD) floppies without the need to modify the floppy disk in any way.  The drives will write in double density format only,  No more need to apply tape to cover a high density floppy's indicator hole.  Google that one if you've never heard of this!
